The Challenge of Accountability or Welcome to The Battle Blog

Hello!

My name is Kyle Battle, and I could write to you a number of things about my resume or qualifications, but we’ll get to that. I have decided to challenge myself by warming up my writing every day with a blog post. These are little tricks that help me to more consistently practice the craft that I teach and love. I believe in setting expectations as early and as clearly as possible, so I will explain what I’ve decided thus far about this project. Also, I’m not typically a very serious person, so forgive me if my writing ever comes across as rigid – hence the practice!

A brief bio: I am a writer, professional dungeon master, educator, and Navy submarine veteran. I’ve been to over ten countries and all fifty states, and I’ve lived in ten. I’ve given stand-up comedy beer tours to over 30,000 people, helped open and found an exploratory learning elementary school, used games like Dungeons and Dragons to inspire and supplement youth literacy, and lead youth writing residencies that culminate in publication. I’m an upcoming MFA candidate at Western Michigan University (matriculating Fall 2022), and in 2020 I read fifty-four books after challenging myself to a book per week. In 2021, I read over sixty. I absorb fiction, self-help, and fantasy, but I read a truly wide variety of genres.

This blog has lots of purpose and none, but mostly functions as a source of financial and social accountability. Like Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations, this blog is primarily for my own good, and I will write it in an intimate sort of format. I try never to be anything but my unadulterated self, so this can function as another litmus for that aspect of accountability too. The goal is to blog for at least THIRTY MINUTES every day, not exceeding an hour. This keeps the Battle Blog fun and something that I can accomplish with minimal work. The posts will be written on the spot, and I’m playing around with consistent daily themes to keep the ideas flowing easily and without stress.

I hope you find value and community in these words, and that they may be of some service to you. My journey thus far has been filled with many lessons, both difficult and simple, and I believe I have a great deal of wisdom to share. Most specifically, how not to be a dingle-nugget, and how to build a life of gratitude and contentment with simple practices and mantras. As with all of life, there will be lots of learning along the way, and I may connect this to other projects, i.e. my podcast, Life’s a Battle, the name of this website. We will figure it out together, by myself, with the help of my friends. Whatever happens, it will all be okay in the end. And like Mr. Lennon said, if it’s not okay, then it’s not the end.

So remember: Life’s a battle, but you’re not in this alone. Tell your friends and your mom about the Battle Blog, and I hope to see you back here soon. Go in excellence, and remember to be a light of kindness for the world!

With raditude,

Kyle
